Retranslators: A way to resend unit messages

Retranslators enable service providers and fleet operators to automatically forward vehicle location and telemetry data from Forguard units to external platforms using supported protocols.

The ability to resend data to other systems is widely required across different fields.

Some government systems require receiving data from vehicles entering specific areas or operating with specific types of cargo.

This feature is configured through GPS-Trace Console and addresses a common requirement in telematics operations where data needs to be shared with regulatory or third-party systems.

Retranslation can also be used for integration with third-party systems such as CRM or BI platforms. You may use our API to develop your own integration and request messages from the system via your server. On the other hand, built-in retranslation functionality using the protocol supported by your system makes the process much easier.

Supported protocols

Currently, the feature supports the SUTRAN protocol, which enables compliance with Peru's transportation authority requirements (Superintendencia de Transporte Terrestre de Personas, Carga y Mercancías).

We've started with this protocol, since 73% of our top Peruvian dealers show their interest in this integration.

Additional protocols can be added based on user requirements. Protocol integration requests can be submitted through standard support or business channels.

How to create retranslator

Currently the feature is in beta mode. If your customers want to send their units' messages into SUTRAN system, please contact us and we will enable this functionality for your account.

Creating a retranslator requires the following steps:

  1. Open the Retranslators tab in the GPS-Trace Console and click the Create button.
  2. Enter the retranslator name, add your SUTRAN authorization token, select the units for data forwarding, and choose SUTRAN as the protocol.
Units can be selected from any Forguard account available in your GPS-Trace Console.

Important Requirements for SUTRAN Protocol:

  • License plate format: Must be exactly 6 characters with no spaces or symbols
  • Unit naming: The unit name in GPS-Trace Console must match the vehicle's license plate number exactly
  • Authorization: A valid SUTRAN authorization token is required (generated in your SUTRAN account).

How message delivery works

The service requests messages every minute and resends them to the SUTRAN server.
If, for any reason, the recipient server does not accept the messages successfully, they will be requested again and the delivery attempt will be repeated automatically.

How to add new protocol?

If you need a protocol that is not currently integrated, please contact us via email or through the support chat in GPS-Trace Console.

When submitting a protocol integration request, please provide:

  • Protocol name and version
  • Official protocol documentation
  • Technical requirements and specifications
  • Your use case and expected timeline

Based on the provided information, we will evaluate the integration feasibility and respond with details on next steps.
